Reflective Inquiry

(noun) : a dialogue conducted with the purpose of exploring and elevating a subject

In order for Rockin' Dog Studio to offer all levels of traditional manuscript development, editing, and project completion, we have to communicate.

Even typical structure analysis and editing require deep dialogue and shared understandings, a sense of the author's voice, and the ability to feel into what will work best for each project, each passage, or each character.

That's probably what most authors expect.

But that's not all we do.

In our experience, there's a way to unlock a secret code in your creativity, to meld your intellect and intuition to improve your work process. We call it reflective inquiry.

Our approach can support you to tap into the source…of your story, your drive, your truth.

Reflective inquiry goes beyond the surface, engaging logical left and creative right brains—and lighting up the conscious and subconscious. When you work from this holistic place, it's possible to both deepen and elevate your experience—and your projects.

We can help you unlock the code.

So you can unlock your most authentic expression.

Want to Dive Deeper?

The architecture of story

Projects are developed in all kinds of ways. Many, especially long-form projects, are first conceived and structured upon an intellectual scaffolding. We find that challenges often result when authors "stick to the scaffold." By introducing a different sort of dialogue, authors can access rich layering from deeper parts of their lived experience.

In the process, authors report breakthroughs, even around very familiar topics. They generate transformative, often unexpected content—intuitive, inspired, heartfelt, and profound. This can be true even in "academic" work. For those who express difficulty in "finding their voice," reflective inquiry can support authentic expression that aligns with the work's purpose and genre. Many writers also report deep and long-lasting personal change as a result.

It's up to you . . .

All of our dialogues, reflective or otherwise, are organic and experiential; how writers define, frame, and participate in the process is completely unique to them.

Regardless of whether you are interested in exploring the impacts of reflective inquiry, a CONSULT is the first step to assessing a potential relationship. Sharing your creative work at any level is an intimate process—and the best results are the product of rapport between participants.

Building a story together is fun.

Doing it well is about resonance.

It's about a good fit.

Are we your people?

It never hurts to find out.

  • We work with authors or screenwriters—in fiction, nonfiction, print or ebook, feature or television.

  • We work most effectively with authors who are willing to wonder. Willing to engage their intuition.

  • Are you eager to find—or reaffirm—your voice, and take ownership of your expression?

  • Most important, are you willing to consider, "Why me? What do I bring that no one else can bring? Why is my approach the best one for this project?"

  • Are you conceiving of a project, or already writing?

  • Are you ready for an edit? What level?

  • Looking for design, formatting, publishing? Writing a screenplay?

  • Stuck in the outline stage, or struggling with dialogue?

  • Have you written "the end," but you're not sure about everything else—is back matter scaring you?

  • Are you willing to rethink your assumptions?

  • Let's talk!
